“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then..I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you.” Philippians 1:27-28
One of my all-time favorite basketball players David Robinson will be one of the first people to admit that he was no saint. But when opposition came his way, he knew he had two choices, to react or respond. He could either react out of his first instinct and out of anger, or he could respond, out of compassion, and careful thought, as he set an example of Christ. Just like Paul in Philippians, David wasn’t perfect either, but even through his imperfections, he was able to shine as a light for Christ; this newspaper article once written about him is evidence of that. The headline read “Saint David”, and then the subtitle written below said something you would rarely read in Sports Illustrated: “San Antonio Spurs center and born again Christian David Robinson is trying to lead his team to an NBA title and remain pure in a world beset by the world’s 7 deadly sins”. Wow, how great is that?! No matter what David faced, or who tried to stand in his way, he, with the strength of Christ in him, was able to set such an amazing example. But what’s the greatest thing, any of us can do the same! We don’t need to be in the highest position or be the star player to shine for Christ..all we need is His strength in us. I encourage you today to ask God for the strength and insight as to how you can make a difference for Him, as you become shining stars in His name.
